Maro Bellou
Psychologist - Psychotherapist

Maro Bellou was born and lives in Athens. She holds a degree in Psychology from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. She also holds a Master’s Degree (MSc) titled “Pain Management” from the Medical School of University of Ioannina (Laboratory of Medical Psychology). In addition, she holds a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program “Systematic Philosophy” at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

She has specialized in Systemic Psychotherapy at the Athenian Center for the Study of the Human Being and at the Institute of Relational and Group Psychotherapy. She has further deepened her studies in Existential Psychotherapy, with a research paper published in the international scientific journal of the Society for Existential Analysis. In recent years, she has been specializing in Post-Freudian and Lacanian Psychoanalysis, participating as an active member in the work of the Center for Psychoanalytic Research of Athens and the Borromean Knot (New Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis). She is also a member of the Digital Humanities Laboratory “Psifis” (DHLab) at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

She has participated both as a delegate and as a speaker at Greek and international scientific conferences in Psychology and Psychoanalysis. Her writings have been published in Fort-da (Psychogios Publications), Alitheia (Patakis Publications), Tetr-a-dia (Armos Publications), PsychoanalysisLacan, and Lacanian Review Online, as well as in the collective volume Body, Experience, Identity and Processes of Socialization and Learning (2019). In 2019, the second edition of her book Gadget-Eros: Love in the Age of Technology (Athens: I. Sideris, 1st ed. 2017) was released.

Regarding her clinical specialization, she worked for five years as a Scientific Associate at the Neurology Clinic of G. Gennimatas General Hospital of Athens, providing psychological support to patients with chronic neurological diseases (autoimmune disorders) and their families. She also worked for five years at the Iasis Day Center, a Day Care Unit for Individuals with Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, and related conditions. Furthermore, she participated as a researcher in a scientific program on memory disorders under the auspices of the Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her clinical experience has also been enriched through her collaboration with OKANA (Organization Against Drugs), KETHEA (Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals), and EPSYPE (Society for the Psychosocial Health of Children and Adolescents).

She holds a License to Practice as a Psychologist (Ministerial Decision 7106/98). She has been working as a psychologist–psychotherapist in Glyfada since 2009. In her clinical practice, she integratively draws upon the therapeutic approaches in which she has specialized and continues to specialize, always taking into account the individual needs and particular characteristics of each person in therapy.
